Nintendo Villains

Boy, this picture took so much longer than it needed to. I originally wanted it up before the holidays but I just missed it. Well, long-time watchers should recognize the theme. Exactly two years ago I did the same theme, but I’ve grown disappointed in the quality of that piece and have been meaning to do a revamp. Soon I will put up each character individually up-close and fully detailed. As for the characters displayed here, they are the ones I either like the most or feel are the most important among the Nintendo villains roster. Do not tell me I “missed” or “forgot” someone. I know there are plenty of Nintendo villains not pictured here. That doesn’t mean I forgot them, I just simply didn’t want to draw them. If you want to see a picture with your favorite character, go search them or draw one yourself. Well, anyway, here are Nintendo’s most wanted. Most wanted for theft, kidnapping, murder, piracy and countless other forms of chaos. The characters pictured from left to right/top to bottom are:

RIDLEY
Ridley is easily the coolest looking Nintendo character ever. However, in this picture he was the last one I did so the coloring job is rushed and ass-tastic (especially on the wings). Well, Ridley is one of the main villains from the Metroid games, and a personal favorite of mine. Since he’s so huge, I saw it fit to put him farthest in the background and as a sort of high-up center piece in the picture.

PORKY
Yeah, I called him “Pokey” for years since that was his name in the US version of Earthbound, but really Itoi meant for his name to be “Porky”. Well, Porky is depicted here in his Mother 3 appearance (amazing game. I highly recommend it) . While Ridley is the coolest looking, Porky is just one of the best villains in Nintendo games, and video games as a whole. He goes from being just the neighborhood pest of Onett to corporal super power and controller of time, space and humanity as a whole. Porky’s a true tyrant, and he’s so despicably terrible in all of his dialogue and actions. Never has a lower and creepier villain been in a video game. Porky also serves as a centerpiece with Ridley here, in his giant mech. One of the best villains ever from, what I feel is, the best RPG series ever.

CAPTAIN SYRUP
I know what most people are probably thinking – “If Wario’s on here as a villain, then how can his rival be on here too?” Well, not only was she the antagonist of the first couple Wario Land games, but she was introduced attacking and robbing the Mushroom Kingdom. She’s a pirate. There’s no such thing as a good pirate. I particularly began liking the character after her appearance in Wario Land : Shake It for the Wii. The relationship between Syrup and Wario has so much potential, though Nintendo refuses to see it. The fact that they are rivals and also friends who are constantly trying to screw the other one over for treasure is just such an entertaining concept. Unfortunately, though, Syrup is not Pikachu, Link, Mario or Kirby, so Nintendo sees no reason for her to make any sort of frequent appearance. She kind of messes up the whole “mean, scary mugs staring you down” effect this picture originally had. She looks more like she wants to play. Oh well, that’s how she gets you. She’s the busty, saucy captain of the Sweet Stuff (formerly the S. S. Teacup). My original impression of her was a way hotter version of Gina Davis from Cut Throat Island.

GANONDORF
You can’t have a Nintendo villains picture without the greatest classic-evil rogue of them all. Ganondorf from the Legend of Zelda series is a good old fashion evil bastard. No tragic or sympathetic back story, just a man composed of pure malice. And, contrary to popular belief, that makes for a great villain sometimes. Ganon is one of the classic examples of evil in my mind, right up there with Count Dracula. Originally I was considering doing Ganon in his original big blue pig form, but I realized that most of Nintendo’s villains already are big stocky beasts, and I just happen to like his N64 appearance best.

MEDUSA
Medusa from Kid Icarus is a villain that should be regarded as one of he greats but, like everything in Kid Icarus, she was totally forgotten until Super Smash Bros. Brawl revived Pit (in a creepy, under-aged sex slave fashion) and his series. The original Kid Icarus is still incredibly entertaining, and difficult. However, Medusa is a little too easy. Battling the weird face machine thing is easy enough, but then when you destroy it and reveal the true woman form Medusa, it takes one hit to defeat her. Recently Nintendo revamped her appearance for that new waste of time, unnecessary Kid Icarus game for 3DS that is only coming out 20 years late now because weirdoes decided they liked Pit in Brawl. But now Medusa’s way sexier. I tried to incorporate the best features of both forms.

WOLF
Although not the most important villain in Starfox, Wolf is the easiest to incorporate in a picture like this. It’s no mystery that I love drawing this guy looking rabid. Wolf was ultra badass in Starfox 64, however, all I hear about later installments just seem to be destroying what was cool about him (or destroying everything that was cool about Starfox for that matter). If it’s not the SNES original or 64, don’t bother. Wolf O’Donnell is the head of the ruthless team of outlaws turned bounty hunters/assassins, Star Wolf.

KING DEDEDE
God, I hate Kirby so much. I just feel like Nintendo FORCED this franchise to be popular. I will never stop thinking of it as that doofy little Game Boy game that was entertaining for about 30 minutes and was intentionally crappy and poorly designed. Some how, though, Nintendo made people recognize it as something more by forcing out about three games a year and trying to create the illusion that a game about a smiling zit living in happy land is actually an epic to be taken seriously. Well, in the end, I have grown to like King Dedede, mostly because of Brawl. Also because he’s pretty much the only Kirby character who isn’t just a geometrical shape with a face. Who doesn’t like a big fat gluttonous ass hole?

BOWSER
Of coarse we need King Koopa in the mix. Nintendo’s most infamous villain, King Koopa’s been trying to tap Toadstool for more than three decades, and continually fails miserably (or so we think. He did get a butt load of kids mysteriously at some point. Hmmm…). Although Bowser has pretty much been destroyed as an intimidating final boss and made out to be more of a goof over the years, when you originally got to Bowser’s lair for the first time in old Mario games, there was a combination of fear and adrenalin rushing through your body (only to find that he’s ALWAYS too easy to defeat). I tried to catch his more menacing side here. So, yeah. Bowser. You know him. You love him.

WART
Lost but not forgotten, Wart, the evil monster toad king who kidnaps babies through story books and haunts plumber’s nightmares. Wart was an evil king in Doki-Doki Panic who resided in Subcon, a magical world where he pulled two children from the real world. Wart made a handful of cameos over time, but Nintendo has altogether just written him off. I know I’m not the only one who wants this guy back. However, I may be the only one who wants another Doki-Doki Panic title to surface.

KING K. ROOL
Another character Nintendo seems to want to forget (probably because he was made by Rare and Nintendo’s a bunch of selfish little brats) but K. Rool will always be one of the great villains of Nintendo in my mind. With roles ranging from tyrant king, pirate captain and mad scientist, this guy had loads of potential. Head of the Kremling krew, King K. Rool and his crocodile army were the main rivals of Donkey and the kong clan. His objectives never seemed to make any sense, but he was a great villain nonetheless. Another menacing fat bastard.

MEWTWO
Ever since it was released, I have hated Pokemon on a whole other level. Aside from the monsters being stupid looking, the gameplay being half-ass and boring, and it being the biggest money-stealing scam of all time, I just plain don’t like it. I still don’t get how it reached the level of success it did. I still feel like it’s some huge, global joke that everyone’s in on but me. But, anyway, you’re probably wondering why there’s a Pokemon here. Well, plain and simple, Smash Bros. Melee made me think Mewtwo was badass. And he is pretty badass. I tried to make him look more like some sort of alien or some king of genetically mutated creature since he was supposed to be made in a lab. I don’t really know or care if he is a villain or not. He was a villain n Smash Bros., a villain in that god awful movie, and he looks cool. That’s why he’s here.

WARIO
And lastly everyone’s favorite fat, nasty, greedy, ugly son of a bitch, Wario. I used to have no interest in this guy, as for the bulk of his time he had terrible games. However, in later years Wario’s got some great titles and earned himself a rightful spot among the great ones for me. He’s shown here flexing and protecting his stash of treasure and garlic.

So that’s everyone pictured here. I really hope you all enjoy this picture, as it took me way too long to complete. Wouldn't mind seeing any of these guys in the next Smash Bros., well, except Porky. He's a great character, but without his mech he's just a fat coward. Just cut the crap Nintendo and give us Kumatora. Download for the best view.

Captain Bucky O'Hare and the Toad Wars

Sorry for not posting on here in, like, half a year. I've been doing a lot of drawing but I've been forgetting to post it here. This is my tribute to Captain Bucky O'Hare and the Toad Wars. I only saw the show once as a kid, I never read the comic, but I did collect the figures for a bit, and Konami made a totally badass game for it. Pictured here are Bucky O'Hare, Deadeye Duck, First Mate Jenny, A.F.C. Blinky, Bruiser the Berserker Baboon, and the Toad Air Marshal.

I wanted to do a lot more with this picture but I got really lazy and forgot about half of the things I wanted to do.

Stephen King's 'The Stand' Artwork

Just finished reading "The Stand" by Stephen King, one of his greatest works, and was inspired to do artwork of the characters. The first one is the majority of the main cast of the book - (Top, left to right) Ralph, Tom, Nick Andros, Mother Abagail, (Left, left to right) Glenn "Baldy" Bateman and Kojak, Stu "East Texas" Redman and Frannie Goldsmith, Harold Lauder, (Right, left to right) Leo "Joe" Rockwell, Nadine Cross, Larry Underwood, (bottom) and of course, Randal Flagg, aka the dark man, aka the walkin' dude, aka Richard Fry, aka Russel Faraday, aka Legion, aka whatever you want - the bad guy. I originally didn't picture this piece coming out the way it did, I imagined it more wide than tall, and I imagined Flagg covering the entire center from bottom up to Nick's crew. I'm pretty damn pleased with the way all of these came out though, and am proud to say that, although I colored it on the computer, every last bit of it was done by hand - no pre-set shading or textures or cheep Photoshop garbage. All just hand and mouse. I really hope you enjoy this one, I spent a good deal of time on this this past week.

The next one is of my personal favorite character from Stephen King's "The Stand", Nadine Cross. I felt SO bad for Nadine in this book. Everything goes wrong for her and none of it's her fault at all. Well, since she is my favorite character, I decided to do a lone picture of the lovely Miss Cross, and it took me surprisingly quick. Enjoy.

The Wario Ware Crew

Here's the cast of the first few Wario Ware games. These games are just fun - fun concept, fun characters, fun cut scenes, fun music, fun everything. These characters are the staff of the game company WarioWare, Inc. Wario creates the company as a scheme to make a ton of money and has his buddies help him. The characters pictured here are - Wario, clad in his biker attire, Mona, a scooter driving babe who can never hold a steady job, Jimmy T., a disco dancing dude, 9-Volt, the oldschool gaming elementary schooler, his big homie, 18-Volt, The Diamond Cab cabbies, Spitz and Dribble, Kat and Ana, the kindergartener ninjas, Dr. Crygor, the crazy scientist with a secret island lab, Orbulon, the migdet alien, Ashley, the bratty little witch, and Mike, the living karaoke machine. Kind of not too proud of how the major picture came out. It's a little too empty and wide, but oh well. I worked my ass off the past 2 days to bring you this picture, so you better enjoy it. If you've never played these wacky games, give em a try.

Clayfighter

Here's my Clayfighter tribute. Clayfighter was a comedy/fighter game series in the 90s that had a cast consisting of wacky clay creatures created by Bessy, a meteor dripping with ooze that crashed in Playland, Mudville USA. Though Clayfighter 1 played very badly, Clayfighter 2 (C-2) Judgment Clay was an awesome game that almost all gamers hate on with no real rhyme or reason. From most reviews I've seen and conversations I've held about it, it seems most players didn't even play enough to even understand what they were doing before they made their opinion. When you stop being a hater and play C-2 and actually get good and pay attention, I feel you can notice that it is actually one of the most superior fighters for it's time in terms of gameplay and programming. The CF series also has, in my opinion, the most memorable and interesting roster of characters out of any fighting series. C-2 Judgment clay and all Clayfighter characters were a huge part of my childhood (I was obsessed with C2 in 1995) and C-2 still remains my favorite game ever, so I only felt it a must to do a CF art. The characters pictured are - Bad Mr. Frosty, Taffy, Tiny, The Blob, Blue Suede Goo, Ickybod Clay, Helga, Bonker, Nana Man, Octo Head, Googoo, Hoppy, and Kangoo. The background is wads of gum I chewed and blended together like a weirdo, then scanned to give an extra oozy effect. Hope you enjoy the few and proud Clayfighter fans.

(As for the ones on N64, they had cool character concepts and amazing sculptors, but everything else about them was crap and a hugedown-grade from C-2)

Megaman X Bosses

Here are the eight maverick boss characters from Capcom's Mega Man X for the SNES. I thought these guys were awesome the second I first saw them on the select screen in '95. This was one of my favorite SNES games, and though the MMX series got very stale after a while, forcing me to lose the previous respect I had for it, MMX1 still remains a great game and a nostalgic classic to me. Around the holidays I did a quick drawing of Nintendo villains and posted it on my Deviantart account. I decided to continue the series with a piece showcasing a handful of the badass brauds from various Nintendo games. This picture took me mad time to do - for three days I was working on this almost every hour I wasn't asleep or at work. Dixie Kong Art for Group Contest

As you all probably know, I have a gallery on Deviantart.com. On DA, I have joined a number of groups recently to put more of my art out there and see more art from people with similar interests. One group, a fan group for Nintendo, is holding a contest, as DA groups commonly do. The contest is to draw a Nintendo "side-kick" - any character who appears in a game as a tag-along for the main protagonist. I knew as soon as I read this that I wanted to do Dixie Kong from the Donkey Kong Country games. Ever since I first played DKC2, Dixie has been my favorite DKC character, and one of my favorite Nintendo characters - though I actually consider her a Rare character, since they are the ones who actually created her, Nintendo just kept the rights to all DKC characters and destroyed the series after Rare's parting with them. Anyway, Dixie was awesome - cute and cuddly yet tough and badass. Above, I posted all the steps of this piece, all done by hand - no paint shop pro or photoshop effects in this one (I tend to use a hint of PSPro lighting effects in some recent pictures). I only hope now that, not only the group will accept my submission, but also that I win! Keep your fingers crossed for me, everybody!

Bump in the Night

Not only have I been on a fan art high recently, but I've also been working on ky DVD collection, getting all those old school movies I love but for some reason just don't own, and lots of those movies are classic horror series. So, as I've been watching all these awesome films again, I've been inspired to bring these great horrors to my personal style. First we have a drawing of everybody's favorite murderers, Freddy from A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Jason of Friday the 13th. The pictures came out much to my liking, so I posted the originals seperately.

Next I did the horrifying yet totally badass creaturs from the Alien films. I put up the black and white o you could fully see the line work put into the picture since the dark coloring job hides a bit of it. Hope you enjoy these creepy classics.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Art!

Recently I've done a ton of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan art. Since I've done so much and plan on a doing some more, I decided to post some up. The picture above displaying the four turtles leaping into action is an alternate version of a picture I have in my Deviantart gallery, here - http://brendancorris.deviantart.com/art/Teenage-Mutant-Ninja-Turtles-161687470 . This version is different in that it has the neon bursts of light shooting from the sewer inspired by the cartoon's intro song. Below is a whole lot more TMNT art. First off, Rocksteady and Bebop, Shredder's two main mutant minions. They were a little too doofy and pathetic to be taken seriously, like most 80s cartoon villains, especially when a rhino and a warthog who both are big as hell should be able to destroy a turtle no problem, but they were still awesome characters. Next is the staff of Channel 6 News, April O'Niel, Irma, Vernon, and Burne. April was the couragous one, Irma was a weirdo, Vernon was a snobby coward, and Burne was an asshole (of course, he's the boss). Next is a personal favorite of mine, Mondo Gecko, the skateboarding badass buddy of Mike. And last is another personal favorite, Mona Lisa, the lizard cutie who falls for Raph. I'm still angry hat Mondo, Mona, and lots of other great characters made close to no appearances in the TMNT cartoon. Well, enjoy, retro fans!

More Card Art

Here's some more artwork for the card set for my characters I promised. In this post we have the main heroes and villains of my comic book series, Mr. Funnyman (above), and the main hero and villain of my game-in-the-works, The Curses of Spinthra, followed by all the boss monsters (below).

Pictured in each image, starting from top to bottom and left to right is - (Picture 1) Adventurer, Mr. Funnyman's wimpy, yet logical, liberal sidekick; Mr. Funnyman, the main hero of MFM and a macho, meat-headed republican with a massive ego; and Lumpy, the Funnymen's secret eye on Pinhead's base. When Pinhead first created his blender serum, he tossed what he believed to ne a dud out the window, accidentally fusing a man with a mountain.

(Picture 2) Bush Gardens, one of Pinhead's first two creatures and one of his main cohorts. Bush Gardens, along with Electro Gator, is a parody of the seemingly manditory idiotic main minion duo of super hero cartoons of the 80's. He is a combination of various plants. Pinhead (the next character) is Mr. Funnyman's arch enemy and creator of the Blender Ray, a device he uses to fuse things together to create humanoid monstrosities to serve his evil will, which is also a mockery of the plot of too many retro super hero stories. Pinhead is an over-exaggeration of your typical overly-evil villain. Lastly, Electro Gator, a combination of an alligator and lightning from a Florida thunder storm, is Pinhead's other main, idiotic cohort.

(Picture 3) Duke Legend, a Fabio-esque, medieval warrior who, for whatever reason, is around in this day and age, is the main protagonist of The Curses of Spinthra, and marches into the evil queen's castle when the fate of man seems sealed for chaos. He is basically a parody of most video game heroes, mostly the Belmonts of Castlevania. Spinthra, the evil queen of the Netherworld, can take various forms via magical spells. Pictured above are her standard form, and her temptress form, used to seduce people to their graves. Every 100 years (everything epic and evil has to happen every 100 years, whether it makes sense or not) a "black witch" is born, and will become the ruler and most poweful entity of the Netherworld. On her 18th birthday, she is old enough to take her castle to Earth and have her shot at destroying all humanity.

(Picture 4) Here are all of the area bosses you will battle in the castle of Spinthra. Medusa, being much easier on the eyes than rumored, is the first boss monster you will battle. Next, you will battle two wild monsters at once, the Manticore and the Wyvern, followed by Asterion, the dreaded Minotaur of Minos' Labyrinth. Next, you will face a massive reptilian titan, the Dragon, then the most famous nightmare and torturer of children, the Boogie Man. Charybdis is a hideous whirl-pool monster dwelling in the underground quagmire beneath the castle. The sixth battle is with the one-eyed, obese giant, the Cyclops, followed by the Headless Horseman on the back of a zombie horse. The monstrous Grendel lurks in the Lost Temple, still holding a grudge over his stolen arm on humans, and the deadly Hell Hound guards the gateway to Hell. Last are the Weird Sisters, Uror (middle), Varoandi (Purple) and Skuld (Green), the ones who trained and taught Spinthra and the main guardians before her.

Card Art

Every so many years since I was little, my brother and I have drawn little fake collectible card sets for our characters. I'm doing a new batch of cards this year, and the artwork is coming out so much to my liking, I've decided to post lots of it. They will later be placed onto the card pages with backgrounds and titles, then cut down to size, but here are the images that will appear on the cards. Above are all 9 of the cards for my graphic novel, Stupid. The cards include - Stupid, Weirdo, Dopey, Lasher, Hrns Guy, Bears Guy, Scarlet, and then two other cards, one for other "That Thing" characters that appear in the comic, and another for the Beasts. Stupid is not the only one of my creations featured, though.

I have finished a handful of ones for my comic strip series, Rick the Raptor. Above are Rick, Clarissa, and Dave. I will soon have some to showcase for The Curses of Spinthra, and then some for Mr. Funnyman. The quality of these cards is tempting me to even post some for projects of mine I have currently not announced since I'd rather my viewers get accquainted with the creations I have posted thus far rather than overwhelming people with too much crap to remember or care about. Sorry for not posting anything in so long. Expect more soon, and look me up on deviantart in the mean time.

Old School Gaming Drawings

I decided to do some drawings of classic NES games, since I already seem to have a decent sized collection of those. Unfortunately, for a couple things in both of these drawings I used one of my worst enemies - preset gradated shading. I absolutely hate the way preset shading looks. I still believe in doing everything yourself. Preset shading always looks so sloppy and out of place, like a child who just learned the concept of shadow colored it, and these pictures are no exception. These drawings were ultra rushed, so I got too lazy to color the sky and even draw or color the ground in the Super Mario Bros. one. The sky's gradated shading looks fine, especially since that's how Nintendo themselves shaded shies in the SNES Mario All-Stars, but the ground is straight up hideous. I quickly drew a bunch of slabs of stone with the mouse, then colored the cracks, the decided to rush together a preset downward shading for the rocks cos I was too tired to do it by hand by that point - bad idea. I plan on doing the ground over by hand and posting a better copy. For now, I posted production step pics below so you can at least admire the character work without that nightmare behind it. Everything besides the two parts I mentioned before (sky & ground) was colored by hand on the comp.

As for the Ninja Gaiden one, only the building in the BG are auto-computer done. The tops of the buildings look good, but I couldn't prevent that bright-ass red in the center that turns to grey. That's what makes it ugly. Once again, I was rushing to the max. If only I put more time into making this. I saved steps of this one as well, though, so I should be able to fix it. Everything else besides the building shading was done completely by me. The pcture is of one of my all-time favorite NES games, and video games, period. Ninja Gaiden was a huge part of my childhood, so I figured "why not do a picture for the blog for it". In this picture are - Ryu Hayabusa, Jaquio, Irene Lew, and a ton of enemies from the game that came out at a time when one was able to be intimidating whle wearing hot pink and purple.

I know earlier this month I said I was going to do more holiday drawings, but I've been occupied working with some people so I've had no time, and now the holidays are over. Well, I was going to do one for one of my personal favorites, Will Vinton's Claymation Christmas Celebration, a little-known but great special that aired in the late 80s, but I didn't like the way the pencil work came out and decided to forget it. I will, however, do a regular themed drawing of Herb and Rex, the two totally gay dinosaurs who hosted Will Vinton's holiday masterpiece soon. Until then, enjoy what's up.

Just did up these the night after Thanksgiving, then colored them this morning. The subjects should be obvious - the cast of Rankin Bass' "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer", Karen from "Frosty the Snowman", and the Grinch from Dr. Seuss' classic, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". The coloring job is kind of whack because I did it real rushed, but they're still enough to bring you some holiday cheer. As promised, here's all the covers to volume 1 of Mr. Funnyman, my original comic book series. I did these four works over the past two weeks. Below this post is one with a preview of episode 1. Happy Halloween. Just decided I throw up a drawing of some of horror films' greatest faces. Sorry for the some what crude coloring job, this was a very rushed picture since I wanted to put up something special for Halloween in between my busy work on some comic book covers I'm doing. I once again resorted to coloring it on the computer since it would take much quicker that way, though like my other computer colorings, it's all drawn 100% drawn by hand with mouse by me, even the coloring in the background and the shading on the characters. I drew Michael Meyers, Pinhead and Jason last night, then threw on Leatherface and Freddy this morning and colored the thing all in about an hours time, so that is why the coloring may look a bit rushed - it was. Well, soon I'll have those for covers finished and I'll post them with some sample pages of Mr. Funnyman.

More on The Curses of Spinthra

It's been a while since I posted more artwork for my video game I'm still working on, The Curses of Spinthra, and what better time to post artwork for a game about ghosts, monsters, goblins and nightmare creatures than October? (and because most of this artwork is from 2008 and there's no reason for why I haven't posted any of it yet). Almost all of these drawings were colored on the computer (still by me and not a cheap program that does 90% of the work for you, though) so the quality is not too great.

These drawings are old because this game is taking a real long time to make. I'm the only guy behind it, so I do everything from sprite design, level design, event and settings design, controls, gameplay, everything, so it will be a little while before the game is totally finished, but someday it will be.

This is a drawing of the main character which you assume the role of, Duke Legend. He's your typical jacked guy with a big sword and a mean mug who marches into the castle of evil to destroy every monster within (not even a joke, in the world of video games that is an average dude).

The final boss of The Curses of Spinthra is the creature called a "black witch" which is made ruler of the Nether-world every 100 years when ne is born. The picture at the top of the post contains various poses of her. Spinthra, being a witch, can magically assume other forms to help her trick or defeat her enemy. One form (pictured to the right) is the temptress form, used either to lure men to their doom or to do things her regular itty bitty form can't. She can also turn into a spider (which her hair resembles) to crawl into tiny spots and scale walls.

These are the first three boss fights you will be faced with on your quest - Medusa, a Manticore & a Wyvern, and the Minotaur. If you're lame and you don't mind spoilers and you'd like to see all of the boss characters in The Curses of Spinthra, you can add yourself to my MySpace page that I haven't used in over a year and view them in my photo album.

Lastly I'll post one I did completely on paper (all the other ones were hand drawn, then scanned and colored in Paint) of Spinthra in various poses. The colors came out kind of horrible on the computer - all that blueishness in the background was way more purple on paper (same with on her tongue) but whatever. I posted the black and white one too for anyone who might want to see some production in my drawings some times.

I promise to post more Spinthra artwork soon, including more old artwork never shown to the public, new artwork, and hopefully even screenshots. Stay tuned.

The Lost Vikings

I recently did a drawing that I colored on the computer ,which I rarely like doing, but it came out pretty good so I decided to post it. Although it was colored on the computer, it was almost all done in MS Paint, meaning I still drew the entire background and did all the shading on the characters myself. Basically, the only cheat thing (Photoshopesque crap) in this drawing is the light from the top left corner. I did the drawing of the three main characters, Erik, Baleog and Olaf, from one of my favorite video games (and one of the most under rated) of all time, the Lost Vikings for the SNES by Silicon & Synapse (now known as Blizzard) and Interplay. Don't even ask why there are elements swirling in the background, they're really only there to create a cool background that will effect the coloration of the vikings. Maybe if you really need to come up with some kind of reason you can say it's the Norse gods or some corny shit. It's a little epic for a game that was a comedy, but whatever, it looks cool. About My Comics - "Stupid" & "Mr. Funnyman"

I've posted plenty of artwork I've done so far but not very much of my own creations (Rick the Raptor and The Curses of Spinthra are it as of now) so I decided to post about my two biggest comic projects that I want published.

First is my graphic novel, Stupid. I finished drawing and writing this comic in 2007. I started it in mid-April and finished it in early May making it my quickest work to date. Over the years of 2008 and 2009 I would randomly go back and do clean-up and text editing. I now have a fully finished 125 page black and white graphic novel. This comic, although not as good a work physically and concept-wise as some of my other creations, has a special place with me. I based this comic on the first comic book character I ever created when I was only a wee artist in 1992.

The story follows the happenings in a strange world, mostly surrounding an area known as Kawnk. This land is ruled by the Beasts, a race of reptilian-monster-people who are headed by the twisted and domineering President Lasher. For as long as the Beasts can remember, they have used strange little creature-people called "That Things" (since no one can exactly say what they are) as slaves. The slaves are given degrading names by their Beast masters. When Lasher is informed by his council of the existance of "That Things" not in the Beasts' captivity, he dispatches his guards to find them. The guards return with only one, which they name Stupid. The now imprisoned Stupid can not adjust to this life of torture and, with a little help from some new friends, plans to bust him and the rest of the slaves out to freedom.

I'd like to publish this comic before any of my others since Stupid is my first true character, but whatever comes my way I will settle for. The book's a comedy/adventure story. The only trick now is to find a publisher who will put out my work.

Next in the line of comics I wish to publish is Mr. Funnyman, a comedic parody of textbook superheroes. This is an on going series of books. Each book will contain two episodes and two shorts (four books a volume). I've completed all of volume 1, and a lot from later volumes. This too is based on characters from my childhood, and in my personal opinion is the funniest work I've ever done.

Mr. Funnyman follows the never ending battle between meat-headed, conservative superhero, Mr. Funnyman, and the evil, living pin, Pinhead. Pinhead's created a serum that can combine objects into humanoid creatures to help him play out his evil desires. Mr. Funnyman, with the help of his not-so-compatible, scrawny, liberal sidekick, Adventurer, must continually stop Pinhead's evil plans and fight off Bush Gardens, Electro Gator, and whatever other evil creatures Pin Head might throw throw his way.

More IT Drawings

Here are more random drawings I did of characters from Stephen King's IT. Anybody who has read the book knows that the huge spider is It's true Earth form. The drawing could have been better. She's a little too light in coloration, and even though it's a picture of a grotesque nightmare, the coloring looks a little cutsie and out of place. I do, however, like the way the dead lights effect came out. I was afraid that would be really hard to pull off by hand, but I refuse to ever use photoshop or any computer effects on drawings when it can actually just be done by hand. The light pouring from her mouth and eye sockets and womb are the best part of this picture in my opinion.

The next picture is of something that was never featured in the film adaptation in 1990. The Turtle was the creator of the universe and the opposing force to It. This picture's ok, but it's not exactly what I pictured. First off, The Turtle's too skinny. When reading the book, I imagine it being massive. Also, the coloring has a very bland effect in my drawing. I imagined it being a glowing medley of swirling color. The book describes The Turtle's coloration as being so magnificent that you can see galaxies in it's toe nails. Also, there is a part where the crease line down the center of the shell is pretty crooked, which makes it pretty ugly. These are mistakes I usually don't make in drawings, so I'm kind of bumed about this one. Whatever. Try to enjoy it, still, if you can. More art coming soon.

Rick the Raptor

Hey. Since progress with my major works is slow (I've got my graphic novel, Stupid, completely darkened, typed, revised, and ready for publication. Now the problem is the publishing part), I'll post a link to a comic strip series I made and posted in late 2008. I started the strips in 2007, then picked them up again in summer of 2008 and began posting one on every weekday in August. The series is not a major work of mine, and the sense of humor is much more tame and typical than that of my other comics. In other words - they make you chuckle at best. I still like Rick the Raptor, though. I don't think a comic strip is supposed to produce the kind of hysterical, rolling-on-the-floor laughing that a solid story consisting of a series of pages should. The idea of a strip is to create a clever punch line using a minimal series of frames. The main factor of my point here is that gut-busting humor is rarely based on punch lines. The funniest humor is made up of funny dialogue and events that may be funny because of ridiculousness, randomness, the shock factor, witiness or rudeness. A comic strip is funny in the sense of a quick yet clever joke is being made that at the end makes you think "Oh, I get it".

Anyway, Rick the Raptor follows the daily antics of Rick and his pals living in a time when dinosaurs ruled the earth and humans were looked at as simple animals. Rick, the unmotivated, lazy, grumpy main character of the series, accompanied by his friends - Clarissa, his sensible yet rowdy neighbor, Dave, his bestfriend and drinking buddy, and Tony, the local bartender, star in 94 comic strips on this official myspage page I created earlier this year. I randomly started posting them in August of 2008. At some point in October, I miscounted and thought that the series would reach episode 99 exactly on Christmas day, so I planned a series of holiday episodes with one final one-framed season-ending frame. When I reached the month of December, however, I recounted and realized it would only be episode 94 on Christmas day. If I had still pushed for episode 99, the season would have ended exactly on New Years, but I had already planned the final episode, thus the final episode of the season remained 94. You can read all of season one at this page, and check out character artwork by clicking the Pics section in the upper left corner of the page. If you have a MySpace account, you can add the page to your friends at the bottom of it. I may make a season 2 some time, but there's no guarentee, for as I have already said, this is not one of my major comics - it's kind of just a side one. If I ever made a season 2, though, I would probably like to see if I could get the strips of both seasons published in a collection book. Anyway, enough babble. Check out the comics for yourself. Caricatures at Applebee's

One night a couple of months ago a friend of mine and I went to Applebee's only with the intention to draw charicatures of all the people we saw (I find their food completely repulsive, honestly). Here are the ones I drew. I will post more of my artwork for my comics and all soon. I usually don't draw people as much, despite the fact that almost every picture I've posted so far has been of a human being. I like drawing more unearthly characters and animals (mostly insects and reptiles and especially dinosaurs).

Although Blogger deleted my AdSense account for some reason (there are no longer ads you can click to make me money, which sucks because I'm not exactly rolling in cash right now). Well, I've been given word that I may very possibly be able to publish my graphic novel, Stupid, in the near future, so if that happens, you need to go out and buy it.

Sorry for all the half-ass posts of older artwork I've been doing. I promise I'll post new artwork soon. I'm also currently working on another graphic novel called Round Rock. I started it in 2008, but haven't really worked on it too much until now. I'm allowing the artstyle and frames in this book to be much more loose and free and I'm really having fun working on it. It also looks great (I think, at least) and I'm quite fond of how it's coming along. It's also pretty funny (Once again, at least I think it is). Well, I'm not going to spill too much about Round Rock yet. I'd rather you all get well acquainted with Stupid and Mr.Funnyman first.

Sorry - Tonight it's Leftovers

Hey. Here are some random ass pictures I did this month last year and over the summer. These were just select pictures I posted on my My Space and Facebook pages. They aren't for any of my comics or anything. They're just random drawings of made up people or characters from other stuff. One of them is supposed to be Eve from Adam and Eve. It has no religious meaning (I'm a very NON religious person) I just felt like drawing her in my way. Another is of Razar and Tokka from the second Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie that I loved when I was little, as well as one of the Legend of Zelda for the NES. All the others are just random drawings of whatever. My favorite drawing's the blonde chick in the white shirt. I know this is kind of a half-assed post, but enjoy it, anyway. I'll post more soon.

They All Float Down Here!

This is a drawing I did of the seven kids (the Losers Club) and Pennywise from Stephen King's book It. I'm still deciding whether I should add a background or not, or what that background should be. It's kind of hard to draw most of the characters not looking like how they did in the 1990 TV movie. Anyway, enjoy and check back for more drawings.

The Curses of Spinthra

While my graphic novel and comic series are my top priority items I want to get published, I am also making a videogame - a sidescrolling platformer game called The Curses of Spinthra. You assume the role of Duke Legend, a ripped, Fabio-looking demon slayer, and you march into the castle of the evil 18 year old witch, Spinthra, to put a stop to her and her monsters. The game is a comedy, mostly being a parody of the Castlevania series. The game is still in early production stages. I only have levels made, and still have 3 major areas of the castle to make with minor touch ups still needed for ones I've finished. I then have to make all character, enemy and item sprites and animations and then finally the triggers and code. The game will not be completed for some time but I am intending on posting it for sale when it is. You'll just have to be patient for now and enjoy the artwork.

Spinthra is the final boss character of the game, yet the central main character, too. I concentrate more on her than the hero because the hero is mostly just supposed to be the player. Spinthra is an 18 year old creature called a black witch who has a head of hair resembling a spider. One is born every 100 years in the Netherworld. When a black witch is born she is immediately made ruler. When she turns 18, she is then old enough to bring her castle to Earth and reign havoc on mankind. Being a witch, Spinthra can assume a number of different forms such as temptress form and spider form. I will post many more pictures for The Curses of Spinthra in time. Welcome to the Blog of Brendan Corris. This is only my first post and, as you can plainly see, I am just getting started at Blogger. I am a 22 year old cartoonist trying to publish my comic books like my 125 page graphic novel, "Stupid", my comic book series, "Mr. Funnyman", and other things like my videogame I'm making, "The Curses of Spinthra". This will be my main posting spot for all my artwork. All updates on my works will be logged on this blog. This is basically your one stop for Brendan Corris material. I'll post some random artwork first for everyone to give you a taste of what I do. I'm still having trouble getting the background up. I hate code. So much copying, pasting, and hoping it will work.
